Highlights from ICCD2024

On the 15th of February, our teams across the world took part in International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD), raising awareness and bringing together patients, families, medical professionals, and government officials.

This year’s theme, ‘Unveiling Challenges’, sparked important discussions. We explored not just the biggest barriers to providing cancer treatment for children in low and middle-income countries, but we highlighted sustainable solutions, like shared care networks that bring treatment closer to home and reduce burdens on families. These efforts, alongside training for medical professionals and improved access to care, are steps toward breaking down healthcare inequities that we at World Child Cancer work toward everyday. We also celebrated the incredible achievements already made, and brought joy and celebration to the children we support all year round.

Here are some of our Favorite Moments:

Myat enjoying Ice-cream at Mandalay Children's Hospital

Spreading joy on ICCD 2024, here we see Myat, a patient at Mandalay Children’s Hospital, Myanmar, enjoying some ice-cream amidst the celebrations and talks about the importance of training and early warning signs of childhood cancer

In Ghana, members of World Child Cancer held a talk at St. Mary’s School, teaching students about the early signs of childhood cancer. The World Health Organization reminds us that catching cancer early can be the difference between a life overshadowed by illness and one filled with possibility. Early detection means treatments can be less invasive, preserving the precious joy and innocence of childhood, while also easing the financial burden on families already stretched thin by love and concern. Imagine the ripple effect of this knowledge:

Children Empowered to advocate for their health and the health of their peers.

World Child Cancer’s team in Cameroon saw an incredible cooperation between the Ministry of  Health, Cameroon Pediatric Oncology Group, the Association of Childhood Cancer Survivors and members of the National Committee for the Fight Against Cancer. Everyone came together to celebrate the launch of projects aimed at developing shared care networks across the nation.

What We Have Achieved:

International Childhood Cancer Day 2024 has been incredible, with your support we have raised £1,700 to support children with cancer and their families. You can help keep it going by setting up a monthly donation.
