with World Child Cancer
Ever wondered what it’s like to be an intern at World Child Cancer? Find out what our current interns think!
World Child Cancer offers flexible internships throughout the year — if you’re interested in joining the team (either in Fundraising or Programmes) please enquire at info@worldchildcancer.org
Who are we?
Hello! We are Michèle and Izzy – the new Fundraising and Marketing interns. We have been working for World Child
Cancer since the end of May whilst on holiday from our universities. Michèle studies International Relations MSc and Izzy studies Global Humanitarian Studies BSc. We love working at World Child Cancer!
What do we do on a daily basis?
Izzy: We come into the office once a week and the rest is remote. This summer I’ve been running the social media accounts. I’ve enjoyed coming up with new ways to engage our followers and encourage fundraising. I need to stay up to date with the latest projects so it’s a great way to see how a charity runs. Recently, I wrote a blog about our new project in Mexico. I had the chance to talk with someone in the Mexico Team to get information for my blog. She was very helpful and talked me through the whole project. I also get to report on the amazing work that individuals and companies have done to raise money in the UK and contact them personally to thank them!
Michèle: I’m currently keeping the website up to showcase the progress our programs have made in the countries that we are active in! In doing so, I have learned how to use WordPress (a really important software to know.) Other than that, I have also supported the team with various fundraising activities, such as building and maintaining relationships with potential sponsors and supporters. Izzy and I recently helped out at World Child Cancer’s annual Ambassador Dinner. It was great to meet all the guests and we had fun selling jewellery made by mothers from Ghana!
How has it been so far?
Izzy: I’ve learnt so much already! This is my first internship and I’m really happy with how it is going. I’ve been given exactly the right amount of work, and I always have people to ask for advice when I need it. I’m grateful especially to the Fundraising and Marketing team who have been so helpful. One of my favourite parts of the internship is joining the all staff meeting on a Tuesday which connects all the country teams around the world!
Michèle: I can honestly say that so far, I have loved doing this internship! I find that our supervisors find the right balance between clearly communicating to us about what we should do while at the same time also giving us space to have fun with our tasks and bring in our own ideas. Everyone in the team is friendly, and there’s a good learning atmosphere where we can ask questions and find out as much as we want to know about working in the fundraising/marketing field, the charity sector and international development.
Thank you for reading and I hope you continue to support World Child Cancer!
