El Salvador
ACT for Children works with Benjamin Bloom’s Children’s Hospital that diagnoses approximately 200 new pediatric cancer cases each year and provides ongoing treatment to around 460 patients per year, ranging in age from newborns to 15 years old. Children aged 15-18 are treated at the adult center. All types of cancer are treated at the hospital. It is the only hospital treating children with cancer in El Salvador. Among the new cases, approximately 40% are acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), with around 65 new pediatric leukemia cases diagnosed annually, and a total of 160 pediatric leukemia patients are treated each year. ACT for Children in partnership with the hospital and its local patient organization, The Ayúdame a Vivir Foundation, is a non-profit organization, has been working to provide critical drugs for treatment of Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), training to health care workers to ensure they are well equipped and essential family support to reduce treatment abandondment.
